The shop and your products

Set up the shop, create products with variants, group them into collections and import them from a spreadsheet.

Start with the General tab

Open Shop, General tab, and fill in:

  • the Shop name, shown on the payment pages, invoices and order emails;
  • the Merchant country: the country you sell from;
  • the Selling countries: those you ship to;
  • the Currency.

These choices are then used to prepare taxes, shipping and payments.

Whole-image thumbnails

Record sleeves, posters, books: turn on Whole-image thumbnails in the General tab. In the shop grids, each product photo is then shown whole instead of being cropped to a square.

Creating a product

  1. In the Products tab, click New product.
  2. General tab: the Product name, its type (Physical, Service or Digital), the Short description, the Selling price, an optional Compare-at price, the Tax rate, then further down the SKU, the Category and the Tags.
  3. Left column: add your photos, choose the Cover and how to display them on the product page (Image display).
  4. The Variants tab if the product comes in several sizes or colours (see below).
  5. The SEO tab: the title and description for search engines.

The product is saved as you go. A Digital product or a Service does not ask the buyer for a postal address: when the cart contains nothing else, email, name and country are enough.

Variants

Tick This product has variants (size, color, etc.), add your options and their values, then click Generate all combinations. Each variant can have its own price adjustment, stock and image.

On the site, a product with variants is shown “From” the price of its cheapest variant. A product without a price is shown as “Price on request”, with no buy button.

Stock

Enter a Stock Quantity, on the product or on a variant, to track its stock: it goes down with every sale, and a product that is out of stock can no longer be ordered. Leave the field empty to not track stock.

The When out of stock setting offers three choices: Show as out of stock (the default), Hide product, which removes it from the shop and the lists at the next publication, or Allow backorders.

Going further

  • Selling Mode: Standard (by quantity), Sell by measure (by weight, length, volume or area) or Bill by time.
  • Unit price: for food or cosmetics, the net content automatically displays the price per kilo or per litre.
  • Tiered pricing, Personalization (engraving, gift message) and Bundle contents.

Collections and import

A collection groups the products that carry certain tags, and creates a dedicated page on your site (Collections tab). To create many products at once, click Import in the Products tab and choose a CSV or Excel file.

Depending on your edition

The full shop, with real payments, is part of the e-Commerce and Studio editions. In the Standard and Premium editions, the shop runs in demo mode: your visitors browse the catalogue and fill their cart, but no payment goes through.

Showing your products without prices: catalog mode

Do you show products without selling them online, like a catalog? Turn on catalog mode in Shop › Store details. Your site keeps the product pages, references, photos, categories and search, but no longer shows any price, cart or checkout.

Catalog mode is available in every edition, including Standard. If you import a TOWeb 5 to 14 site whose catalog was shown without prices, it is turned on automatically. To sell again, turn it off: your prices come back.
